Who Says God Has No Son?

In Psalm 2, written about 1,000 years before the coming of the Messiah, King David wrote:

"Serve the Lord with reverential awe and rejoice with trembling.

Pay homage to the Son or He will be angry and you will perish in your rebellion, for His anger may ignite at any moment. All those who take refuge in Him are happy." Psalm 2:11-12, HCSB

In Proverbs 30, David's son Solomon, one of the wisest men to ever live, wrote:

"Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered the wind in His hands?
Who has bound up the waters in a cloak?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
   What is His name,
and what is the name of His Son
if you know?" Proverbs 30:4, HCSB

Then Jesus came to earth, and people in the Bible called Him the Son of God.

They didn't call Him "A son of God."

They called Him "THE Son of God."

In English as well as in other languages, there is a VERY big difference between the two statements.

"A son" means there are others, but "the Son" means there is only one.

In the Greek text of the New Testament, Jesus describes Himself as the μονογενής, or transliterated, "monogenēs.

The word means "single of its kind, the only, the only unique one."

Using Jesus' own words, He is YHWH God's One and Only Son.

Here is proof that many called Jesus the Son of God (italics mine):

  1) The very first to say that Jesus is the Son of God in the New Testament was the real angel Gabriel

The angel replied to [Mary]: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy One to be born will be called the Son of God." Luke 1:35

  2) John the Baptist also said it

"I have seen and testified that [Jesus] is the Son of God!” John 1:34

  3) The Apostle Nathanael said it

“Rabbi,” Nathanael replied, “You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” John 1:49

  4) Jesus said it

"... do you say, ‘You are blaspheming’ to the One the Father set apart and sent into the world, because I said: I am the Son of God?" John 10:36

"Then the high priest said to [Jesus], “By the living God I place You under oath: tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!”

“You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”   Matthew 26:63-64

"Anyone who believes in Him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the One and Only Son of God." John 3:18

“I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live." John 5:25

“This sickness will not end in death but is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” John 11:4

“Write to the angel of the church in Thyatira: “The Son of God, the One whose eyes are like a fiery flame and whose feet are like fine bronze, says..." Revelation 2:18

  5) The Father announced it Himself, with no PA system required

"And there came a voice from heaven: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!" Matthew 3:17

"While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him. Listen to Him!" Matthew 17:5

"A cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud: This is My beloved Son; listen to Him!" Mark 9:7

"For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!" 2 Peter 1:17

  6) The Apostles and other writers of the New Testament said it

"Then those in the boat worshiped [Jesus] and said, “Truly You are the Son of God! Matthew 14:33

"The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." Mark 1:1

“Rabbi,” Nathanael replied, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” John 1:49

"But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31

"Immediately he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues: “He is the Son of God.Acts 9:20

  7) The Ethiopian eunuch said it

"And Philip said, 'If you believe with all your heart you may.' And he replied, 'I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.'” Acts 8:37

  8) The demons who Jesus cast out of people said it

"Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, those possessed fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” Mark 3:11

  9) Even the soldiers guarding the crucifixion scene said it AFTER seeing Jesus die on the cross

"When the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “This man really was God’s Son!” Matthew 27:54

10) And finally, at His trial, the Jewish Sanhedrin accused Him of calling Himself the Son of God

"Then the high priest said to Him, “By the living God I place You under oath: tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!” Matthew 26:63

So my question to Muslims and others who deny that Jesus is the one and only Son of God is this:

  - if Jesus ministered to Jews and the leaders of the Jews throughout Israel the vast majority of His time

  - if so many were aware that He was said to be the Son of God, INCLUDING those who brought Him to trial

  - if it's true that pre-Christian Jewry never believed in the complex unity of God or His multi-Personality

  - and if Muslims (and other unbelievers) are correct that the Trinity was a late teaching that came along more than 300 years after Jesus...

Why does NO JEW in the entire New Testament ever say,

  "Jesus,

You cannot be the Son of God because...

  God has no Son?"
